The Open World Championships were EPIC! World Records, surprise wins, personal PRs, lifetime goals achieved. You name it, there was a lot to digest!
Check out our favourite moments below:
Joy Nnmani, 57kg class. Gold Medal Overall
This woman needs no introduction, and she brought the heat last week in Lithuania!
Joy was involved in one of the most intense battles of the competition with the Italian Sara Naldi. Going head-to-head, Joy had 28kg to make up when it came to the deadlifts, and the improbable is never ruled out when it comes to Joy’s Deadlift.
But she did not make it easier for herself. Her 220kg opener was almost too fast and caused a technical failure. Not being able to risk a retake, she opted for a 25kg jump to her second. With even more twists and turns, Naldi misses her second deadlift! But this time on what looked like a strength issue, leaving the door open for Joy.
With the pressure mounting, as cool as you like, Joy pulls a clean 2nd deadlift to pull her within just a few kilos of Naldi’s total…
Naldi goes on to miss her 3rd Deadlift, leaving Joy needing to pull 238kg for a World Record Deadlift and a place on the top of the podium.
Joy pulls and secures her win in what was a performance for the ages.
Ena World Record Deadlift, 83kg Class
ENA FINALLY was able to put a number on the bar that gives him an increase to his Deadlift World Record. Time and time again, he has had to pull big on his 3rd attempt for the win or a possible overall medal, meaning the deadlift record has eluded him for a while.
BUT NOT ON THIS DAY.
Ena jumped from 355kg on his opener straight to 383kg for a new open world record, and SMOKED IT! From here the jump to 393kg was just a bit too far on the day but placing 4th overall and a deadlift PR to boot is a good day in the office.
Special mention to his first 300kg squat, too!
Betti Hanlon & Clara Peyraud, 76kg Class
Our two favourite 76kg lifters of this World Championships 🇬🇧🇫🇷
Both lifters are always so so consistent, and we know we will see them mixing it up with the best of the best for years to come.
Special mention goes to Clara getting ever closer to the 200kg Squat Mark and Betti for yet again adding 7.5kg to the British Total Record. Time and time again, Betti turns up and puts on a show!
